Self-Study Module 2

This devlog is a part of learning of KIT207 from UTAS. This week, our mission is trying to model a humanoid character and make some animation of it in Blender.

First, I started with modeling a humanoid character. This is actually a completely different experience from last week because it's a lot harder to build a real human model. Because of that, I had to watch a few tutorials from youtube on how to do it and luckily I was finally able to make my own model. Here is the link of the tutorial that I think is most helpful for me and check it out if you have time because it has very good quality :

Also it's the looking of my human model:

So after done the modeling section, I move on to this week's main task, which is to create some animations for the model above. For a Blender novice like me, it was actually quite difficult and it forced me to watch some youtube tutorials again. Luckily, those tutorials were really helpful and helped me understand more about how to create an animation. After that, I started the first thing that was to create a skeleton for my character. As far as I know, Blender has an add-on called rigging rigify that creates a basic skeleton for some basic models including a human model. I used this add-on to create a basic skeleton and tweaked it a bit to fit my model. The next thing I had to do was attach this skeleton to my character and it was pretty simple using the armature deform feature with automatic weight built into blender. At this point, everything is much simpler and all I have to do is move the bones to fit the animation I need to create and insert them into a table of frames to create the complete animation . In general, creating animations in Blender is not too complicated, but mastering them requires a lot of practice and it will be a very long process for me. Here are some basic animations I created for my characters including: Walking, Idle and Waving

Idle

P/s : There is no Blender file this week since my model is not ready to share :(
