Game Ideas

The theme of my game project this year is Unexpectedly Opposite. After much deliberation on this topic, I've come up with a few ideas that I'll list in more detail below.

Game Idea 1 : An Inverted Movement Parkour Game

This is the first idea I came up with and one that I'm pretty sure I would do with the consent of my partners. This is also the idea that I made my simple game and mentioned in the Self-Study 4 devlog, but I will talk about it in more detail here. Basically, this is a parkour game, where players have the task of overcoming enemies and obstacles to get back their stolen items. And as you know, for a parkour game, elements like wall run or wall jump are definitely indispensable. However, if you only stop at these points, the game is definitely not too attractive because there are many similar games on the market. And as you have read in the title, the main difference of my game is that every movement in the game is backwards (for the keyboard). For example, for 4 basic scroll buttons W A S D, now if you want to move back you have to press W, to move right you will have to press A and the same goes for the other 2 buttons. Combining this with jumping on walls to escape from enemies is sure to create a lot of fun and memorable moments with this game.

For this game, the target audience will be everyone, especially those who are passionate about parkour but do not have the opportunity to experience it in reality. This game is also suitable for all ages and genders because it does not have elements that are too violent or offensive, all just like lego drawings. I totally think this game can be successful because combining 2 things reverse motion plus parkour in the game will definitely be something very interesting and attractive.

Finally, about my goal for this game this term, I think I will focus more on gameplay to implement the basic features of a parkour game as well as maybe have a bit of a shooting element. I think implementing all the featured features like wall jump or wall run will take a lot of my time and after that I only have a little time to polish the game a bit more (make a few more levels, improve model, ... ). However, my main goal this semester is still gameplay, so I will finish it before moving on to the next part.

* For anyone who want to feel the inverted movement, go to try my simple game that I have posted in this project ( remember to choose Inverted Mode )

** I also think to turn it into multiplayer game so that everyone can see the funny parkour of others :P

Game Idea 2: A Survivor Game

The plot of the game is about a character who is tired of city life and decides to go to a deserted island to try life here. And after having experienced it, he no longer wanted to return to the city but decided to stay on this island forever. However, because he was gone for so long, his family sent some people to pick him up. Players will play this character with the task of both surviving on this island, and having to run away from the rescuers. This is completely a basic survival game with features such as gathering ingredients, cooking as well as crafting basic items. In addition, to serve the escape, you also have to create fake shelters to prolong the search team's time. And in keeping with the general theme that I mentioned at the beginning of the devlog, in the game of course there will be opposing elements such as the water on this desert island can be eaten, and the meat is used for drinking. Not only that, his crafting recipes are also not completely accurate, many of which have been confused with each other.

Target audience of this game is still everyone, because this is a very relaxing game and suitable for everyone. To me, all survival games are really fascinating in some way and I think there are a lot of people who have the same opinion as me. So, with just a few different elements in the gameplay, this game can completely attract a lot of players who are passionate about the survival game genre.

Finally, for this semester's goal, I hope I can finish the basic gameplay part of the game, since this is a huge project because a survival game has a lot of features despite its simple in terms of thinking, but really difficult to implement like crafting or inventory. Plus, for survival games like this, the appearance  will also be just blocks like Minecraft, so I won't spend too much time making the models too detailed, but instead improve the game's features more, making some new features.
